Look in ossim/src/examples/tutorial for some simple programmatic examples on how to use the library for the following:
image_open.cc
Does a simple open and print some information about the input image
image_copy.cc
Opens and copies the image to the specified output
image_copy_b1.cc
Copies the first band to file.
reproject.cc
Reprojects any input image to UTM as long as the input has a projection associated with it
